Dance Program - (additional fees required)

The goal of the dance program, directed by Mrs. Cheryl Jenkins of Canaan Institute of the Arts, is to enable students to express their ideas, feelings and opinions in movement. Dance classes and performances at Ivy Leaf emphasize the development of choreographic skills paired with the study of a variety of technical styles, which serve the creative effort of the choreographer and the dancer.

There are a number of dance opportunities for Lower School and Middle School students at Ivy Leaf School. Classes meet every Wednesday during the school day. The following classes will be offered beginning in October 2006: Nursery (Introduction to Dance); Pre-K (Introduction to Ballet); K-8th (Tap, Ballet, Jazz, and Modern Dance). Grades 6th – 8th only (Hip Hop Dance).

An on-stage dance production featuring students in full costume is presented to parents and guests as a result of a very fulfilling program.

Trips - (additional fees required)

Each grade has an opportunity to take a class trip. Parents are encouraged to accompany their child as chaperones. More detailed information about your child’s trip is given during the year.

Music - (included in curriculum; no fee required)

All students receive choral music instruction. Students have an opportunity to participate in various programs throughout the year including Christmas and Black History.
